About The Winery

Elio Grasso is a family-run estate based in Monforte d’Alba, one of the most respected communes of Barolo. The domaine is known for classic, structured wines that clearly express their origin while remaining precise and balanced.

The estate was founded in the late 1970s by Elio Grasso, who chose to focus exclusively on estate-grown wines at a time when many growers were still selling fruit. Today, the Domaine is run together with his son Gianluca Grasso, ensuring continuity of style and philosophy across generations.

From the beginning, the family has been committed to long-term quality, careful vineyard work, and a restrained, traditional approach in the cellar.

Elio Grasso farms around 18 hectares of vineyards, primarily in Monforte d’Alba. The estate’s most important holdings are in the prestigious Ginestra cru, including the celebrated sites Casa Maté and Gavarini Chiniera.

The vineyards are planted on classic Langhe soils rich in limestone and clay, giving the wines structure, freshness, and strong aging potential. Exposure and altitude are carefully matched to each grape variety, with Nebbiolo occupying the best sites.

Viticulture is based on traditional and sustainable practices, with great attention to vineyard balance and vine health. Yields are kept moderate, and harvesting is done by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and selection. The focus is on expressing each vineyard rather than chasing power.

Vinification

In the cellar, the philosophy is classical and transparent. Fermentations take place using native yeasts, with long macerations to fully express Nebbiolo’s structure and aromatic complexity. Aging is carried out mainly in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving freshness and allowing the wines to evolve slowly and harmoniously.

Intervention is kept minimal, with the goal of letting the vineyard speak clearly through the wine.

On the nose, this Barolo reveals intense aromas of rose petals, red cherry, and raspberry, layered with notes of tar, licorice, spice, and subtle earthy undertones. The palate is powerful, structured, and beautifully balanced, offering flavors of red berries, minerality, and gentle oak influence supported by firm, refined tannins and vibrant acidity.
