About The Winery

Fratelli Alessandria is a historic family-owned wine estate based in Verduno (only 5% of production in the Barolo zone), a small hilltop village in the northern part of Piedmont, at the northern edge of the Barolo appellation near the Tanaro River. Fratelli Alessandria is one of the most long-standing wineries in the whole area, having already been operational around the middle of the 1800s, at the time of the birth of Barolo. The estate remains firmly family-run, led by brothers Gian Battista and Alessandro Alessandria, together with Alessandro’s son, Vittore.

The vineyards are located primarily in Verduno, with additional holdings in Monforte d’Alba. Among the most important sites is Monvigliero, widely regarded as the flagship cru of Verduno and one of the most distinctive terroirs in Barolo, known for producing wines of aromatic finesse, structure and longevity. 

The estate farms approximately 12 hectares, working exclusively with estate-grown fruit. The soils consist of fossil S. Agata Marl and are of a calcareous-clayey nature, having emerged from the sea some 6-7 million years ago.

Vinification

Fermentation is carried out using native yeasts, generally in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve purity of fruit and terroir definition. Macerations are traditional, without excessive extraction. Ageing for Barolo takes place predominantly in large-format oak botti, mainly Slavonian oak, with some use of large French oak, avoiding barrique-driven styles. Maturation is long and patient, typically around three years in wood, followed by additional time in bottle before release. 

Fratelli Alessandria is widely regarded as a reference producer for Verduno, combining deep historical roots, organic-minded viticulture and a resolutely traditional approach to winemaking. 

On the nose, Gramolere reveals intense aromas of rose petals, red cherry, and raspberry, layered with notes of tar, licorice, spice, and subtle earthy undertones. The palate is powerful, structured, and beautifully balanced, offering flavors of red berries, minerality, and gentle oak influence supported by firm, refined tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, persistent, and elegant, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, spice, and classic Barolo character.
