About The Winery

Pieve Santa Restituta is the Tuscan estate of the Gaja family in Montalcino, dedicated exclusively to the production of Brunello di Montalcino. The property was acquired by the Gaja family in 1994, marking their first expansion beyond Piedmont and reflecting a long-term commitment to Brunello as one of Italy’s most age-worthy and expressive wines.

The Gaja family’s winemaking history began in Piedmont in 1859, in Barbaresco, and spans five generations. Over time, the family has come to represent one of the most influential names in Italian wine, combining deep respect for tradition with technical precision and international perspective. The acquisition of Pieve Santa Restituta represents a continuation of this philosophy outside Piedmont, applying the family’s experience and standards to a distinct terroir while preserving the identity of Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino.

Vineyard work at Pieve Santa Restituta is carried out with a strong focus on respect for the land, precision farming and long-term sustainability. 

Pieve Santa Restituta comprises approximately 16 hectares of vineyards located on the south-western side of the Montalcino appellation, an area known for slightly warmer conditions and excellent exposure.

Vinification

Vinification at Pieve Santa Restituta is based on parcel-by-parcel fermentation, allowing individual vineyard characteristics to be preserved. Aging for Brunello di Montalcino takes place over an extended period, combining large oak casks and barrel ageing, followed by further bottle maturation prior to release, in accordance with the estate’s emphasis on balance, transparency and ageing potential rather than overt oak expression.

On the nose, this Brunello reveals magnificent aromas of dried cherry, plum, and wild berries, layered with notes of leather, forest floor, cedar, and spice. The palate is structured and nuanced, offering flavors of dark fruit, earth, tobacco, and gentle herbal undertones, supported by firm, polished tannins and vibrant acidity.
